- The Plumridge Tenements, in the Eucla Basin are reporting encouraging exploration results for Gold and Uranium.
More Information
Minsands ground acquisition strategy over the last three years has secured advanced project areas containing resources that exhibit potentially favorable mining and processing options and good infrastructure. In addition, exploration projects have been secured in provinces where potential paleo-shoreline targets are interpreted, with high value, zircon and rutile rich mineral assemblages.
EXPLORATION PROJECTS
Eucla Basin, Western Australia (Plumridge, Pioneer and Newmont Project Areas)
The Minsands licences and applications cover a combined 8,163 square kilometres (plus an additional 462 sq Km in Koint Venture) along the western margin of the Eucla Basin in Western Australia.
The eastern Eucla Basin, where similar early indications for mineral sands existed, provides a good analogy for potential success over the western parts of the Basin. Follow up research on earlier intersections and more rigorous drilling in the east resulted in significant mineral sands discoveries by Iluka Resources Ltd since late 2004.
Approximately 15,000 metres of drilling for Mineral Sands has been carried out on the three project areas. Mineralisation has been encountered on the Pioneer project area, but not at commercial grades. Further work is planned for 2008.
The Plumridge tenement lies in the Yilgarn Transition Zone, a newly postulated Gold Province that hosts the Tropicana deposit (+4Moz, open-pit resource), the Beachcomber project, and several other target areas. Geochemical sampling on the tenements in 2007 has outlined two significant gold anomalies, one of which is overlying a basement structure. Drilling is planned for Q2 2008.
Murray Basin, Victoria and New South Wales
Minsands has three advanced projects located along the southern margin of the Murray Basin in Victoria, Wedderburn, Gray Bridge and Avonbank which cover a combined 550 square kilometres area. The area is well serviced with road, rail, and power infrastructure, and the licences cover mostly cleared, privately owned farmland.
Combined Indicated and Inferred Resources 581 million tonnes at 5.2% heavy minerals (at 3% cut-off) for the Wedderburn, Gray Bridge and Avonbank projects. Aircore drilling programmes have been carried out on the Wedderburn and Gray Bridge Projects (see ASX release dated 12 October 2006). Assay results from the drilling programme indicated significantly higher zircon content than previously estimated.
Minsands is working with potential customers and equipment suppliers to identify market openings for the products from these deposits, which have different attributes to conventional mineral sands products.
In addition, Minsands has two other projects in the southern Murray Basin at Balmoral West and Cannie West, and the Magic project in the northern Murray Basin in New South Wales.
Inkerman, Cape York Queensland
The project encompasses a number of Licence applications, covering approximately 3,800 sq Km on Western Cape York peninsular, stretching from just south of Weipa to the southern tip of the Cape. Access agreements are in discussions with Traditional Owners.
Otway Basin, Victoria
Minsands has approximately 2,900 sq km in the Otway Basin. This is an underexplored area with significant sandplain coverage, with the same host rocks as the Murray Bason.
Minsands is managed by an experienced team of people well experienced in the mineral sands business. Patrick McManus, Managing Director, has over 25 years experience in both operational and corporate roles within the industry at RZM Cable Sands and RGC. Mark Teakle, Exploration Director, has extensive experience in both gold and mineral sands, including discoveries in the Yigarn Goldfields and Murray Basin.
Minsands is currently actively exploring its Victorian and Eucla Basin projects for gold and mineral sands. During 2008 it expects to complete programmes in WA, Vic, NSW and Qld.
